The S.M.A.R.T. Program

The 90-day Supervised Medically-Assisted Rapid Transformation (S.M.A.R.T.) Program is ILWM’s high-intensity weight loss program. The goal of the S.M.A.R.T. Program is to help you achieve rapid results which will get and keep you motivated while simultaneously introducing new behavioral methods which will help you make more long-term sustainable lifestyle changes.

Designed for people who want to work aggressively, see results quickly, or who have a time-sensitive need to lose weight, the S.M.A.R.T. program is an accelerated version of our time-tested weight-loss program. It is the most intensive ILWM outpatient program.

This program is ideal for a New Year’s Resolution, brides-to-be, those preparing for the beach, new mothers and those wishing to keep to avoid weight gain during the holiday season.

The S.M.A.R.T. program is the intelligent and safe way to lose weight and get in shape in a short period of time. If desired, during the last two weeks of the 90-Day S.M.A.R.T. Program, ILWM trainers and staff will help transition those members from the 90-Day S.M.A.R.T. Program to another ILWM Program.

The S.M.A.R.T. Program introduces you to and helps you incorporate ILWM’s 7 Essential Elements™ for Sustainable Living:

The Institute of Lifestyle & Weight Management (ILWM) provides an innovative solution to the problem of overweight and obesity and associated conditions through its system of 7 Essential Elements™ for Sustainable Living. Together, the 7 Essential Elements™ create a powerful combination of positive health practices that empower individuals to manage their weight, change their eating, exercise and lifestyle habits and live healthier lives. The basic framework underpinning our approach to weight management is based on the assumption that our lives are too dynamic, too busy, and too hectic, and the world is too complex to rely on the solutions of yesterday. The 7 Essential Elements™ for Sustainable Living is an innovative approach to living well in today’s world.

The following services are included in the S.M.A.R.T. Program:

Medical CheckupsMedical Checkups
Our extensive Medical Checkups ensure proper management of each member’s personal health program. Overweight and obesity are often associated with hypertension, diabetes and other disease—conditions that can only be detected and treated through physical exams and cutting-edge diagnostic tests. Checkups also give members regular opportunities to talk privately with their physician. Each member will receive a comprehensive initial assessment on their first day and a follow-up consultation at the beginning of the third month of the program.

Nutritional ConsultsNutritional Consults
Our approach to proper nutrition teaches not only what we should eat, but provides daily practices and tools that encourage us to do so: mindset modifications, nutritious menus, cooking techniques, time management tips, and even supermarket shopping tips. Our state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen is the ideal environment in which to learn about and internalize healthy dietary practices. S.M.A.R.T. Members meet with the ILWM dietitian initially and on a weekly basis while enrolled in the program.

Educational WorkshopsEducational Workshops
Our Educational approach plays a vital role in the success of consistent and meaningful behavior modification. ILWM empowers members through classes, lectures, and one-on-one consultation to give them the self confidence and knowledge to make informed health care decisions and to take greater control of their weight & lives.

New DirectionsNew Directions
New Directions is a radically new way of thinking, an essential element that helps ILWM members to find a unique focal point for their lives, one that was previously missing. New Directions helps you adapt to unfolding circumstances, bounce back from seemingly catastrophic life events, and live a more sustainable life. By finding a new direction and aligning a lifestyle and weight program around it, you can make the large-scale changes needed to reach the desired future you dream about.

Exercise OfferingsExercise Offerings
Exercise helps keep our heart healthy and our body in optimal physical condition. The benefits of a sound exercise program, if consistently adhered to, are unmistakable. Each member will follow an exercise prescription designed specifically for them based on current health conditions. Extensive one-on-one personal training is included in the program (36 one-on-one sessions), as is facilitated group exercise sessions (12 exclusive group fitness sessions). As well, S.M.A.R.T. Members also have unlimited access to our daily aerobics, cardio-circuit, kick-boxing, yoga, and stretching classes.

Psychological SolutionsPsychological Solutions
Psychological Solutions gives participants the tools to manage his or her environment physically, mentally, and socially through behavioral modifications and coping strategies. Weekly group behavior modification and group accountability meetings keep members on the path to long-term success. All group topics are approved by the ILWM psychologist. On occasion, the staff psychologist may lead a group session. One-on-one psychological consults with the ILWM psychologist may be purchased in addition to the S.M.A.R.T. Program.

Sustainable ChangesSustainable Changes Behavioral Program
Sustainable Changes, part of the 7 Essential Elements of Sustainable Living, is an innovative and customized behavioral program designed for today’s world. Sustainable Changes is an extremely powerful behavioral program because it is a sound eclectic model that is specifically designed for to meet the challenges we face everyday. Eclectic because no single theory explains, predicts for, or completely helps everybody. It also allows room for new methods to quickly be incorporated into the model as new data emerges and unfolding events alter our way of life. Because this unique curriculum draws on a broad range of perspectives and theories, and is tailored specifically to the member’s needs, the likelihood of its effectiveness once the member has left ILWM is much higher than if it were a “cookie-cutter” program.

Each S.M.A.R.T. Member will be introduced to the Sustainable Changes curriculum in their group accountability sessions. Groups will include a weekly weigh-in, collection of exercise and food journals, introduction of weekly Sustainable Changes topic and group discussion.

Topics include: Mindfulness, Appetite Awareness, Mindful Eating, Mindful Meditation, Structured Eating, Decision-Making Skills, Resilience, Emotional Eating, Binge Eating, Breathing Techniques, Balanced Thinking, Finding Your Weight Loss Window, Weight Maintenance, Stress Management, Finding Your Focus and Alignment

At the end of the three month S.M.A.R.T. Program participants may transition into one of three different graduated programs:

Masters of S.M.A.R.T.

Individuals wishing to re-enroll in another S.M.A.R.T. Program may do so at a reduced rate. Topics in the behavioral groups will build upon their previous program’s topics. Price: $1999*

S.M.A.R.T. Wellness Program

Individuals transitioning into the Wellness Program will have access to the ILWM facility and its providers and the ability to attend all of the classes not exclusive to the S.M.A.R.T. or Residential Programs. Individuals may purchase personal training sessions at a later date if they desire to do so. Price: $199
